Sílvia Pedro
Sílvia Pedro is the national focal point for malaria vector control and mosquito nets for the National Malaria Control Program at the Ministry of Health, Mozambique. She led the organization of the country’s first, and later, mass campaign distributions of Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs). As part of the campaign, 16.5 million LLINs were distributed, covering 6.7 million households. She is currently organizing a LLIN pilot study in schools as well as research on bed net access and possession in the communities as an incremental mass distribution of LLINs. The access and possession studies will examine the current coverage and use of LLINs and their contribution to the reduction of malaria cases.
She previously worked at the Provincial Health Directorate of Manhiça as head of the Malaria Control Program. Silvia Pedro earned a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from University Eduardo Mondlane in Mozambique.
