Malaria: Breaking the Cycle

Dr Bruno Moonen is deputy director at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) where he supports the foundation’s strategy and efforts to eradicate malaria. Prior to joining the BMGF in 2013, Bruno worked for the Clinton Health Access Initiative leading their global malaria programs on access to treatment, sustainable financing, and elimination. He also worked for Médecins sans Frontières, primarily in the Horn of Africa, and was a consultant for Epicentre, where he was responsible for nutritional surveys and program evaluations. He also supported polio vaccination campaigns in DRC, and the Roll Back Malaria (now RBM Partnership to End Malaria) while at UNICEF. In 2005 he became the Malaria Technical Adviser with MERLIN for the Global Fund Malaria Program in Somalia.

He earned a Medical degree from the University of Leuven, a diploma in Tropical Medicine from the Tropical Institute in Antwerp, and master’s degree in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
