  • New Approaches to Drug and Insecticide Resistance

Alfredo Mayor is associate research professor at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health where he leads studies of malaria pathophysiology in Southern Mozambique and in Barcelona. The overall goal of his translational research is to contribute to the development of new tools for the control and eventual elimination of malaria through the understanding of the malaria physiopathology. He has combined field-based epidemiological and clinical studies with laboratory-based functional studies to understand the impact of antimalarial strategies on the acquisition of immunity and the development of drug resistance. He is currently using results from these studies to develop new approaches for malaria diagnosis and surveillance in elimination activities.
