  • Panel: Closing Gaps in Malaria Training and Human Resource Capacity for Malaria Eradication

Mr Pelágio Marrune is country focal person for the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) at Malaria Elimination 8 (E8). He is also a member of the Secretariat of the Regional Coordination Committee of Mozambique, South Africa, and Swaziland malaria cross-border initiative. Previously, he worked as a provincial coordinator at MalariaCare, where he was responsible for the implementation of malaria control programs.

He contributed to the construction and equipping of an insectary in Pemba, located in the province of Cabo Delgado in Mozambique. As a result of his contributions, the insectary was able to identify the presence of the Dengue vector in Pemba, which was decreed an outbreak in 2013. In addition, Mr Marrune contributed to re-defining the interval period between rotations in massive bed net distribution campaigns from five-years to three-years based on local conditions (contrary to the five-year lifespan proposed by bed net producers).
