Dr Li Xiao Hong is a technical officer responsible for the certification of malaria elimination in the Global Malaria Programme (GMP) of the World Health Organization (WHO). Since she joined GMP, she has led the establishment of a new certification mechanism, including setting up the Malaria Elimination Certification Panel, a technical body dedicated solely to certification. She is the focal point for border malaria in GMP and has led the work of evidence review group on border malaria to establish strategies and guidance to support affected countries. She is also a focal point in capacity building for malaria elimination, including developing training modules for countries that have embarked on elimination. Before she joined in WHO GMP, Dr Li had been working in WHO country office in China and was responsible for malaria and neglected tropical diseases.

Before joining WHO, Dr Li had been working at National Institute of Parasitic Diseases, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as a scientist for more than 10 years and is also associate professor.
