Past Core Course:

  • Diagnostics for Malaria Eradication

As a 2015 course instructor, Mr Paul LaBarre was senior technical officer at PATH. His primary focus centered on accelerating a portfolio of novel, appropriate point of care technologies in the areas of HIV and malaria diagnostics. As a seasoned leader in global health, he has experience in technology investment strategy, biomedical technology design, field and laboratory evaluations, private- and public- sector collaboration, multicultural negotiations, technology transfer, commercialization, and standards development. At PATH, he was project director of Diagnostics for Malaria Elimination to Eradication, sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and principal investigator for a National Institutes of Health funded non-instrumented nucleic acid amplification for electricity-free point of care diagnostics project. He also served as senior advisor to multiple medical product development activities for PATH/MVI’s Technology Solutions Global Program.

Mr LaBarre’s professional experience includes working in the areas of medical technology design, composite engineering, and project management for the Seattle Orthopedic Group. He is a former nuclear engineer and officer in the US Navy and earned a master’s degree in Medical Engineering from the University of Washington and a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University.
