Professor Hilary Ranson is a vector biologist whose research focuses on the control of mosquito borne disease. She is head of the Department of Vector Biology at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. She has a particular interest in the use of insecticides in public health and on the causes and consequences of insecticide resistance for disease control. She is strongly committed to strengthening capacity and is currently coordinating a major interdisciplinary program to increase the impact of vector control in sub-Saharan Africa by filling capacity gaps, strengthening linkages between research and policy, and integrating approaches to target multiple vector borne diseases. Professor Ranson serves as a technical advisor to the IVCC and is a member of the Vector Control Advisory Group at the World Health Organization. She has led several international consortia to develop and evaluate new approaches for malaria control.
