Gao Qi is senior professor at Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases and professor at Suzhou University. He previously served as director of Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases and director of the National Key Laboratory of Parasitic Diseases at the Ministry of Health from 2005–2013. He has worked on both malaria research and field control since 1983 with experience in malaria control and elimination on sub-national, national, and international levels.

Professor Qi is chair of the DDT Expert Group of the Stockholm Convention, United Nations Environment Program, co-chair of the Surveillance and Response Working Group of the Asia Pacific Malaria Elimination Network, malaria expert for the Technical Review Panel for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Technical Strategy on Malaria Control and Elimination, and a member of the WHO Malaria Policy Advisory Committee. Professor Qi is also a member of the National Expert Committee on Disease Control and a member of the National Public Health Criterion Committee on Parasitic Diseases at the Ministry of Health in China.
